American health care provider, Aetna, produces Clinical Policy Bulletins (CPBs) for use as clinical decision-making tools in connection with health care coverage decisions. AHRQ is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. AHRQ research aids decision making to improve the quality of health care services. The site offers sections on research findings and clinical information including evidence-based practice, clinical practice guidelines, outcomes and effectiveness. AHRQ is a member of INAHTA. Chapter 7 of the Etext on Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Information Resources includes a comprehensive summary of the AHRQ mission, the technology assessments they conduct, levels of evaluation used and programmes they support.

AHFMR supports health care researchers in order to improve health and quality of life. The publications section of the web site allows access to a range of reviews, information papers, bulletins and HTA initiatives, as well as access to Research News magazine. AHFMR is a member of INAHTA.

ASERNIP-S is the research arm of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. It conducts clinical assessments of health technologies and techniques. The publications section of the website offers details on technology overviews, peer-reviewed publications and links to systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines. ASERNIP-S is a member of INAHTA.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's Technology Evaluation Center (TEC) produces evidence-based assessments of the effectiveness of health care technologies. TEC is one of the 13 evidence-based practice centres appointed by AHRQ. Details of the process, criteria and format are provided on the web site along with assessments in progress and access to completed assessments by topic or volume.

Previously known as the Canadian Coordinating Office for Health Technology Assessment (CCOHTA), CADTH is a national body responsible for providing information on the effectiveness and efficiency of drugs and health technologies. CADTH is a member of INAHTA.

CMS offers research-oriented publications based around eight themes. Its responsibilities include administering standards in quality of health care facilities and providing information to a variety of audiences. CRD provides research-based information on the effectiveness of interventions used in health and social care. The web site offers access to the DARE, NHS EED and HTA databases. Publications can also be downloaded. Other services include an enquiry service, an analysis of the evidence behind selected health stories reported in national newspapers, and a dissemination service. CRD works with various health, social research and information organizations and international networks (e.g. NICE, Home Office, Cochrane). CRD is a member of INAHTA and G-I-N.

Hayes has several fee-based products that cover new and emerging health technologies: Outlook (horizon scanning), Briefs (brief assessments of new technologies) and Alert (newsletter on emerging technologies).

HEN is a European information service for public health and health-care decision makers. The site provides access to information and evidence through web sites, databases, national and international organisations and institutes. Browse or search for Evidence reports. The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) delivers health economics, health outcomes and health policy research and related services. The Web site provides access to the research results of IHE’s Fellows and links to other organizations dealing with health economics and health technology assessment. Through systematic reviews of scientific evidence, MAS provides up-to-date, evidence-based assessment and advice to government health-care decision makers about emerging health technologies and health services in Ontario. The site provides links to health technology reviews and external links to other resources. MASC is a member of INAHTA.

MSAC advises the Australian Minister for Health and Ageing on evidence and resources relating to safety, effectiveness and cost effectiveness of new medical technologies and procedures. Based in the University of Birmingham, NHSC is funded under contract by the Department of Health in the UK to provide advance notice of significant new and emerging health technologies. NICHSR is part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Its mission is to improve the collection, storage, analysis, retrieval and dissemination of health services research. The web site provides a series of links to: databases and retrieval services; outreach and training; research and development; publications, including bibliographies; and HSR Information Central, a gateway to information aimed at the health service research community.

New Zealand Health Technology Assessment (NZHTA) is a clearing house for health outcomes and health technology assessment. The main bulk of the research done is on health technology assessment and includes work in the area of health economics.

The Web site provides access to the New Zealand Evidence Based Health Care Bulletin, systematic reviews and briefs done by the researchers, links to other resources and organizations and a listserv on health outcomes and health technology assessment. NHS QIS is ‘the lead organisation in improving the quality of health care delivered by NHSScotland’. One of its key functions is the provision of advice through HTAs on the clinical and cost effectiveness of methods used to promote health. The Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Technology Evaluation Center health technology assessments include reviews of new and emerging technologies.

The FDA is responsible for the overall planning, promoting, and administering of programs pertaining to the maintenance of standards of quality of foods, drugs, therapeutic devices, etc.

Chapter 8 of the Etext on Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Information Resources provides a detailed account of three FDA centres which are relevant to the research involved in an HTA: Center for Drug Evaluation and Research; Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research; and Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

The purpose of the NHS HTA programme is to aid decision making within the NHS through the provision of information on costs, effectiveness and the impact of treatments and tests. VATAP systematically reviews medical literature and provides peer-reviewed, evidence-based reports to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
