EUnetHTA: transnational methodological developments

The purpose of this session is to present preliminary results from the EUnetHTA-project in relation to development of HTA methods in the area of producing Core HTA, adapting HTA reports from one context to another, and using monitoring tools and sharing data from the monitoring processes across borders.

One of the overall objectives of EUnetHTA is to develop a generic methodological HTA framework based on current best practices (Core HTA Structure). This work on the core HTA structure provides detailed methods for compiling data on effectiveness with necessary information about e.g. social, economic, legal and ethical issues. It supports independence from specific context but will list any issues that may be meaningful to include for adaptation and applicability in various national HTA contexts. Another aim is to ensure better use of existing HTA reports by developing a toolkit for adapting the "core" within assessments made for one country into advice appropriate to other contexts (social, political, economic and health system) within which it may be implemented through policy. The intention is to provide structured products based on work already done (i.e., existing HTA reports and Core HTAs) that can then be easily utilised in policy making in member states and the EU. Facilitating the use of existing HTAs will contribute to minimising the duplication of work. The preliminary results in relation to development of "core HTA" and adaptation of core (and existing) HTA will be presented and discussed in this session.

Furthermore, EUnetHTA is working on providing tools that enable countries to monitor the development of (emerging, new or established) health technologies and to sharing data and results of this monitoring, and the developments in this area will also be presented and discussed.
